All key roads in Dubai shall now be monitored by Traffic department through surveillance cameras installed a junctions. This aids in preventing traffic jams and also for emergencies.
All key roads are now connected to the traffic control center at Bani Yas by surveillance cameras that have been installed at vantage points in junctions. Nearly 235 cameras are installed which shall be monitored on 27 screens at the center. These cameras would aid better traffic flow in busy junctions.
Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), said in a statement on Tuesday that 235 surveillance cameras are now fitted to key junctions and roads in Dubai and that these cameras are linked to the Traffic Control Centre at Bani Yas to monitor and streamline traffic movement across the emirate.
The system calculates the volume of traffic congestion on main and express roads and detects abnormal traffic patterns such as accidents and vehicle breakdowns on roads.
