Police are investigating the whereabouts of a dead body, which was recovered in a town park in Indiana yesterday. Officials believe that the dead body could be of Dr. Teleka Patrick, a Michigan woman who mysteriously disappeared last December.
The dead body was first spotted by a fisherman floating in Lake Charlers in the Indiana town of Porter at about 7 a.m. Yesterday. The dead body was recovered by members of the SCUBA team and Porter Fire and Rescue Department .
There were "no obvious external signs of trauma to the body," Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris said. "There is some decomposition, so it's hard to tell for sure."
The autopsy is due for Tuesday. The body could be identified by Wednesday.
Police says that they cannot positively identify the body until after the autopsy, but said that Patrick's family has issued a statement assuming that the body could be their daughter's.
"Our family was informed that a body was found that may be our daughter Teleka Patrick," the family said. "We are waiting for official confirmation from the Kalamazoo Sheriff's Department and have no comment at this time. Thank you for your continued prayers -- we ask that you respect our privacy at this difficult time."
The 30-year-old missing Patrick was a first-year medical resident in psychiatry at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, Mich. She was last seen on December 5 at around 8 p.m. At Radisson Hotel, a short walk away from her home.
A Radisson hotel employee had said in a statement that she appeared agitated when he turned her away after she tried to book a room.
Nearly two hours later and more than 100 miles away, Patrick's gold Lexus was found lying in a ditch with a flat tire. Her wallet was inside, but car keys were gone. Patrick's family lodged a missing report after failed to turn up at her work the next day. Her purse and cellphone were obtained from her office desk.
Investigations are on and officials will issue a statement only after the autopsy report is out.
