Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs officials are visiting businesses around the state in an effort to make regulations more efficient and transparent for owners.

The Battle Creek Enquirer reports that agency Director Steve Arwood recently went to Gallagher Uniform where he met with co-owners John and Pat Gallagher.

The family-owned company processes 15,000 industrial work uniforms a week for more than 400 customers in southwest Michigan and northern Indiana.

Arwood told them that they are the regulators' "customers." He says protecting the public and workers is important, but they also want to make the regulatory process "quicker, faster, more transparent, more efficient."

The agency implemented its Reinventing Performance in Michigan process three years ago in the hope that Michigan can be a top business-friendly state.
