MSU to ban tobacco in campus!

The Michigan State University is all set to imposed a campus-wide ban on all tobacco products, including chewable tobacco, cigarettes, E-cigarettes, vaporizers and hookahs.

The Lansing State Journal reported, the ban will be in effect from August 15. It will prohibit tobacco use in buildings, on lawns, sidewalks and even in personal vehicles on university property.

According to the University officials, they’re enacting the ban as a matter of public health. Dr. David Weismantel, MSU’s university physician, said that, “We want to promote the healthiest environment possible and make the statement that all tobacco use is unhealthy.”

The new rule will be imposed on Michigan State University students, faculty and others inside the campus. Punishments could range from a written warning to a suspension for the Michigan State student smokers, while complaints against the employees would go through human resources, similar to the way chronic tardiness complaints would be handled.

“Education is the true focus, and we need to educate the campus community because they won’t know initially,” he said.

Doug Monette, the police public information officer of the University will be talking with tobacco users initially and will inform them of the new ban and helping them locate appropriate areas to smoke.
