Dashcam video of Good Samaritans saves police trooper’s life

Michigan State Police Trooper, 51-year-old Garry Guild attempted to make a traffic stop on February 20th, when motorcycle driver Michael Barber sped off that led to a chase.

Barber crashed his bike and started walking towards Guild and ignored Garry’s commands to stop.

Barber’s brother Travis Wise, who was following from behind stopped his vehicle and attacked Garry.

According to police 50-year-old Keith People, was one of the Good Samaritan, who stepped in to help.

"I got up there, and I grabbed a hold of Barber and threw him off" the trooper, People said. "Everybody went to the ground. I had Barber in a headlock. I looked back and Wise was still choking the officer. I grabbed Wise and put him in a headlock."

44-year-old Jerry Burnham, and his wife, also helped and were able to assist the police trooper in getting both the men into custody.

"My wife's like 'There's an officer out there!' And then she started yelling that he needed help and told us to stop," Jerry Burnham said in February. "So, that's what we did."

Garry suffered an injury on the neck, as well as a hand injury from accidentally shocking himself with a stun gun during the incident, but he returned back to duty the next day.

21-year-old Barber and 19-year-old Wise face multiple charges, including assault by strangulation and attempt to disarm a police officer.
