Detroit Lions coach Matt Patricia is holding his ingenuousness after sexual assault allegation against him in 1996 reemerged on Wednesday.

According to reports, Patricia and one of his companion were charged 22 years ago by a Texas grand jury, on one count each of intense sexual assault involving a woman on South Padre Island. The accuser did not testify and the case was dismissed 10 months later.

In a statement, Patricia said he was falsely accused and he found it incredibly unfair, disappointing, and frustrating that this story would re-emerge now.

The Detroit Lions employed Patricia as a coach after past season to replace Jim Caldwell . They further said, a pre employment background check didn't disclose the incident, but they believe Patricia's statement and aid him.
